Heathrow Airport also known as London Heathrow is a major international airport. The airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings. It is the second busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic. Heathrow Airport in 2017 handled a record 78 million passengers, it is one of six international airport serving the Greater London. London Heathrow is a main hub for airlines such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

Heathrow Airport originated in 1929, as a small airfield, which was known as Great West Aerodrome. Development stages of the whole airport began in 1944 and it was stated that it would be used for long distance military aircraft bound for the Far East. However, when the time had come for the completion of the airport, World War 2 had ended, which meant that the government continued to develop the airport into a civil airport but not a military airport. The masterplan for the airport was designed by a gentleman called Sir Frederick Gibberd. He had also designed the original control tower, central area buildings, and the original terminals.

Facilities

Heathrow Airport has four passenger terminals and a cargo terminal. It is used by over 80 airlines flying to 185 destinations in 84 countries. The airport has: Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, Free Church, Catholic, and Anglican chaplains. In each terminal there is a multi-faith prayer room, in addition to this there is also St. Georges interdenominational Chapel, which is in an underground vault adjacent to the old control tower, where Christian’s services take place.

Stoke on Trent Railway Station On the 9 October 1848 the Victorian station buildings were opened; one year later other buildings in Winton Square were opened including the North Stafford Hotel. Stoke on Trent Railway station is a mainline railway station serving the city of Stoke on Trent and the town of Newcastle under Lyme.

Stoke on Trent Station has three main passengers platforms, which is managed by Virgin Trains.  The main entrance to the station is from Winton Square opposite the North Stafford Hotel. The station has a large modern booking hall, which has fast ticket machines, a cash point and access to platform 1. Stoke on Trent Station is located on both the Crewe to Derby Line and the Stafford to Manchester Line; it also served by trains between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly.

Port of Dover is the cross channel port which is situated in South East England. The port has been owned and operated by the Dover Harbour Board. This port is one of the world’s busiest passenger ports. In 2017: 11.7 million passengers, 2.2 million cars, 2.6 million Lorries, and 80,000 coaches passed through the port with an annual turnover of £58.5 million a year. The port also has its own private police which is known as the Port of Dover Police.
